The launch of the Studies in Arts and Humanities Journal Utopian Acts special issue took place on May Day 2019 at Birkbeck, University of London. The event featured short talks from Alexander Kouker and Conor Murphy of SAHJ; special issue contributors Molly Ackhurst and Heather McKnight; Sasha Myerson of the Beyond Gender Collective; and Michael Darko and Janahan Sivanathan from Birkeck’s Compass Project.
Alongside the special issue, we launched two more projects: Help Us Build the World, a collective zine assembled by contributors to the conference and the special issue alongside new members of the Utopian Acts collective; and the Utopian Acts Library, a transient library of fiction, criticism, poetry and graphic novels about utopia and activism.
